The optimal time for planting in the high desert is fall. At this time soil is warm but not too hot. The nights are cool promoting less shoot growth and more root growth and the days are relatively cooler leading to less stress. Planting at this time will also give your plants more growth and flowers the following spring and establish a root system that will prepare them to survive our long hot dry summer ahead.
